Chevron Championship: Nelly Korda remains five shots clear ahead of final round and closes in on third major title

Nelly Korda remains five shots clear at the Chevron Championship and in poll position ahead of the final round despite failing to reach the heights of her stunning opening two rounds.

The American, chasing a third major title, set a new 36-hole tournament scoring record over the first two days, carding back-to-back 65s to sit six shots clear.

On Saturday, she shot a round of 70 to move to 16 under, but the closest anyone could get was Thailand's Patty Tavatanakit, who sits on 11 under after a round of 69, narrowing Korda's lead by one stroke.

China's Ruoning Yin enjoyed a superb third round to card 66 and move to 10 under, but she remains some six shots shy of Korda.

English duo Charley Hull (five under) and Lottie Woad (four under) remain some way back, despite better third-round showings than their opening two days.

Korda is seeking her second Chevron crown in three seasons, knowing a win would propel her to the top of the world rankings after incumbent Jeeno Thitikul missed the cut.

"The front nine was great," Korda said after Saturday's third round.

"But yeah, I missed that putt on the par-five eighth, and then kind of just slowed down since.

"And all my misses with my putts were right, so I'm going to go to the putting green after.

"Just got to reset and hopefully it goes my way tomorrow."

Who will win The Chevron Championship? Live coverage of the fourth and final round begins on Sunday from 7pm on Your Site Golf.
